Not since 1978 has there been a live music agency in the Midlands set up to bring the best new artists from the area to the best venues around the UK.
Back then Oak Agency brought The Specials, The Selecter, and lots of other great artists to venues for the first time. The Beat had Aston Uni Skanking on the night they shared the stage with John Peel and later Fine Young Cannibals played their first ever gig at Birmingham University. If you are too young to know any of these let’s just say they all went on to do rather well.
30 years later the driving force behind that agency John Mostyn is back with a new agency - this one. The plan is pretty much the same: find the best artists and let good venues know about them.
Aided this time by some fine younger folk we are here to share the good stuff and save your ears the hassle of listening to the not so great.
Since the end of Oak Agency John has been off managing artists, some of the above plus Alison Moyet and Inner City. His label Phffft brought Ocean Colour Scene to the world. He’s been there, read the book, wore the socks and ate the sandwich and now is really enjoying being in Birmingham again and leading as normal a life as he ever will.
The CiD Music team based in Birmingham’s Custard Factory, home itself to some great musical happenings, are out and about checking new artists all the time in all genres so be assured whatever you need they know where to find it and their relationships with agents for major established artists means that there is nothing and no one that they can’t negotiate for you.
Call them any time and see what they can do for you.
