Smileymic at The Rainbow

News has been rife around Birmingham over the last week or so regarding the noise troubles at The Rainbow in Digbeth. Here at CID Music we have been reminiscing about the good times we had there in 2008. Our particular favourite was the event we put on in November. For those of you who joined us, feel free to reminisce too. For those of you who missed it, take a look at Smileymic (and other archive posts) to see what you missed out on.

Smileymic in Final of Boss Loop Station Championship

CID Music’s very own Smileymic has looped his way into the Grand Final of the Boss Loop Station Championship. They will be held at The Bedford in London on Monday 9th March. The judges at the Birmingham heat were really excited by his performances of ‘Jump Around’ and ‘Rapper’s Delight’ and Smileymic can’t wait to perform some of his original material at the final. He will be up against 10-15 finalists from all over the UK including last year’s winner Glen Aitken. We will keep you posted about how he gets on.

Beatsmash Live

Following the success of the Gigbeth Fringe event CID held earlier this month, Smileymic has been booked to perform as part of Beatsmash Live at Revolution in Loughborough on the 7th December. The organisers are really excited to have Smileymic on the bill, looping his magic alongside the likes of beatboxer MC Xander and DJ champions Beat Assassins. For ticket details see bellow or to hear what Smileymic can do then take a look at his website here.

Smileymic meets The Sugarhill Gang

CID Music’s very own Smileymic put in an entry to Gigbeth 2008’s ‘Meet The Sugarhill Gang’ competition. All he had to do was record his own version of the hip hop classic ‘Rappers Delight.’ You can watch it here:

The people at Gigbeth liked it so much, he won! Smileymic got to meet the US Hip Hop stars, watch them soundcheck and even have a cuppa. Read what Smileymic thought about it here.

For those of you who weren’t around to hear them when they first kicked off, here’s what they sounded like back in 1979:

A Long & Very Good Friday.

Well a cracking day and night was had on Friday. In the day we hosted a conference for Student Union Events Officers from Bristol up to Stoke and Hereford over to Loughborough. Thanks to all who came and the guests who joined us - Chris Unitt, Andrew Dubber and Miles from Heducation. Lots was discussed and we are sure there’ll be more great gigs at Midlands Colleges and Uni’s as a result.

Friday evening we partnered with Mr Elephant Presents for a top night at The Rainbow as part of the Gigbeth Fringe - our idea. Laura Louise guested, Mama Matrix played a blinding set and Smileymic played a fine first Birmingham gig for him.
The evening finished to much dancing inspired by Marc Reck on the decks. Nicky Getgood blogged about it here.

We filmed the whole thing in glorious HD so films up soon once the editing chaps have done their stuff.

Thanks to all who came by and made it such a top night.
